Bid1: Tower Defense Game

Preface:

We wish to build a 2D top down "Tower Defense" game. A simple strategy game. The game will allow for single player play, or competitive multiplayer over a network. It will be developed in C#/C++ (decision pending) for Windows machines. The game essentially consists of enemies invading a play area in which the player is responsible to defend through the means of various units that the player can upgrade over time. In the two player competitive mode, the player may have control over some offensive aspects as well. The players goal is to let as few enemies get past as possible.

Strengths:

  • Game Programming experience
    • Various games of a similar 2D nature have been completed successfully by members of our team.
  • 2D Graphics Experience
    • Experience with manipulating 2D graphics programmatically and Collision Detection in a 2D plane.
  • Network Programming Experience
    • Experience working with LANs and WANs via Socket communications.
  • Web Applications Experience
    • Experience with Databases and common Web Application tools.

Weaknesses:

  • Little DirectX / Shaders Experience
  • Little Game Networking Experience

Approach:

  1. Get Base DirectX Knowledge.
  2. Create game rules / Plan game play aspects.
  3. Implement game logic.
  4. Implement game networking code.
  5. Create Web based stat tracking (time permitting)

Implementation considerations:

  1. Full time work schedules
